About 2nd Avenue Press

Railway Tracks

Our
Story

For much of the 20th century, Alberta, Virginia (the press' founder's hometown) marked the junction of two railroad mainlines. The founder walked these abandoned railroad lines during childhood years, in a nearly-abandoned town of fewer than 280 residents. The walks, and the experiences of her childhood, were how and why her poems began.

2nd Avenue Press is named after the road our press' founder grew up on, living with her mother. The press was created in memory of the founder's late mother, Linda Diane Wray King

My mother wrote the note below to the press' founder, her daughter, upon the publication of her poetry memoir, "Memory Chose a Woman's Body." This press is doing exactly that...spreading our wings and flying.
